That's great Mike. If I zip a large file like an audio file can I send it
as an attachment even though it was originally too large to attach?

Hi Wayne,

Here are some steps for 7-Zip:

To unzip files:

1. Highlight the file or files you want to unzip. They can be both, .ZIP or
.RAR files or, just 1 or the other. This program has the ability to unzip
both types at the same time.

2. Press the applications / context menu key.
3. Press, the #7 on the number row above the main keyboard or, arrow down to
7Zip & press enter. The first time you use the program you might want to
arrow down the list to see what options the program has to offer.
4. I arrow down to, extract here, & press enter all the time. I do this
because I have a certain folder that all my downloads go into, & I extract
all the files into the same folder.

To compress files:

1. Highlight the file you would like to compress / archive / zip up.
2. Press the applications / context menu key.
3. Press the #7 on the number row above the main keyboard.
4. Arrow down to, Add to "Name of File7z", & press enter.

Another way to compress:

1. Highlight the file you would like to compress / archive / zip up.
2. Press the applications / context menu key.
3. Press the #7 on the number row above the main keyboard.
4. Press enter on, Add to archive...
5. Tab to Archive format, arrow up or down to select your choice of
compression method.
6. Tab to, compression level, arrow up or down to choose your compression
level.
7. Tab to, compression method, arrow up or down to choose your compression
method.
8. Keep tabbing through to check out the many other options you have in this
program. When you are through, press spacebar or enter on okay to start the
/ zipping compression process.

 Other Steps:

You don't use 7Zip to open the, .RAR file. You use it to extract the stuff
that is inside the., .RAR file. Try the steps below.
1. Highlight but, do not open, the .RAR file that you are wanting to extract
the files from.
2. Press your applications / context menu key.
3. Arrow down to 7Zip and press enter.
4. With 7Zip open, arrow up or down through the options & press enter on the
option of choice. You might also be able to access the 7Zip options by
pressing Alt + F, for the file menu and arrowing down through this list. I
usually use the, extract here, option.
5. Tab through the dialog boxes & press the spacebar / enter keys
accordingly. I can't be more explanatory about the use of 7Zip because I
don't have a, .RAR file to play with.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

I am using Winrar because another kind person on the list told me to ignore
the window that required me to buy it and it worked. I have 7Zip and Winrar
on my machine but don't know enough about using either but a tutorial would
be welcome here.

The folder was from a website that has an entire library but it seems that
once I unzipped it the links took me to the web for each file.

I did such a thing a few years ago using win zip, but it sounds to me like
you are just using the built in utility in windows itself.

Let me consider it, possibly such a thing is easy enough to do that I might
make a recording of it and post on the server.

Thanks for all of the help. I am in need of finding a tutorial on zipping
and unzipping files. I did manage to unzip it with some help but the files
inside are numbered rather than titled-a big problem and when I click on one
of the numbers it seems to go to the internet rather than opening as a text
document. Too much for this old fellow but I'll keep plugging away. Time
to zip it.

You might need to configure 7zip so that it is available in your file
context menus. This is usually something a programme tries to set when you
install it, and there is probably a way to do this directly from Windows as
well (I can look into it later if you want). If you already had winrar set
to do this though, or installed winrar afterwards, that will probably be in
your context menus rather than 7zip. BTW the Winrar trial message can be
safely ignored. The programme still works fine. Although it's a very good
programme and I'm not necessarily averse to paying the $20, I can understand
why you might not want to. The shell option to extract with the programme
should still be there in your context menus though. If not however, 7zip
will work, as others are saying.

I tried right clicking and there were many options but extract files was not
one of them. I got a notice that my trial period for Winrar had expired and
that they wanted $20 to get it back. I have 7Zip but I don't know if that
can work with a folder full of files sent with Winrar. I need more
extencive help than just click.
