J1 is more stable, J2 is still relateively early in development but 
moving along quickly
J1 has support for JSR 168 portlets today
We hope to release 1.6 of J1 in October

2. What are the differences between the different portal efforts?
Both J1 and J2 do not have WSRP support yet.
Pluto is not a portal but just a portlet container
