Dear Sri Gulam Nabi Azad, You have done an excellent job in giving a stable government through our election 2009 to the people of our country. I am quite sure; you will help our country in solving the main issue- that is of population. Can you help the country by showing a political will to solve this issue?
2. Dr Singh deserves all praises & congrats. We are all sure that he will make our country second to none. I am raising the basic issue of population. We rigorously observe World Population Day on 11th July every year, which needs to be followed up with measures for population stabilization too. The government in 1992 (Congress was in power) introduced a bill for two child norm for anyone to be eligible to hold a public office including contesting elections at any level. (This was from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare). I am sure, you are fully aware of the same. 3. But unfortunately, as it happens in the case of many bills, this is also being tossed to & fro to committees, group of ministers etc. without any tangible results, as it would appear to a common citizen has happened due to lack of political will. The bill will go a long way in a commitment by the political leadership that is, honestly speaking is totally lacking, which can be streamlined by this government, with all the support that the Congress got now as peoples' verdict. 4. As you are aware, the delimitation act has been extended upto 2026 & the number of MPs in each state will continue as per 1971 population till then. Does anyone think what will happen to our country thereafter? 5. Now that you are at the helm of affair as regards population issue, I earnestly request you to initiate the much required political will, so that our country will be benifitted in the long run. We should not overtake China in this area, as it has been predicted by many international agencies. 6. You deserve full credit & appreciation for your speech on the World Population Day & I quote from the news item Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday made out a case for shedding religious reservations about population control. He said population control is in everybodys interest. Addressing a function organised here to mark the World Population Day, he called for universal acceptance of the small family norm irrespective of caste and religion particularly in India, which has just 2.5 per cent of the worlds land but is home to about 17 per cent of the global population. The benefits of development were being negated by the ever-increasing population, and this was the root cause of poverty, unemployment, rising prices, and law and order. 7. I am very happy to learn your initiatives in implementation of PNDT act and support to a girl child, which is timely & would go together with the issue. 8. I know you have a busy schedule & I am sure you will spare some time to this burning (though unpopular, despite the countrys need) problem of India. This will add a feather in your cap.
