To,
Greetings from Jharkhand Social Watch! National Social Watch Coalition (NSWC) is a nation-wide participatory effort to track governance by various civil society organizations and concerned citizens. It produces an annual report on governance and addresses issues of concern at the regional level. The Fifth "Citizen's Report on Governance and Development 2008-09", collated by the National Social Watch Coalition (NSWC) comprising of civil society organizations and concerned citizens in 14 states including Jharkhand, examines the performance of the four nodal institutions of governance - parliament, the judiciary, policy making and institutions of local self-governance. It also looks at new policies and issues like NREGA, NRHM, JNURM and SEZ and the many contradictions and crises faced by these institutions. Indeed, what makes this report unique is that while there are numerous studies on the specific issue of governance this is perhaps the first time to examine governance from the point of view of the performance of these four institutions. This was done because NSWC feels that how they are performing is also indicative of how governance and governance accountability will take shape in the future We would like to invite you to the Consultaion cum panel discussion on Governance and Development- 2009 and also the state release of Citizens Report on Governance and Development-2008-09 which will take place on Sunday July 26th, 2009 at SDC (Social Development Centre), Purulia Road in Ranchi between 10:30 am to 1:00 pm followed by lunch. We look forward to requesting you in the consultation and hope you will be actively participate. In Solidariry Dr. Ramesh Sharan Convener, Jharkhand Social Watch
