The Watchung Arts Center Folk Concert Series is very proud to present an
intimate evening with the legendary performer Melanie. Participate in this
very rare coffeehouse appearance by purchasing tickets from the Arts Center
well in advance.
Melanie, whose wistful songs and ethereal voice made her an emblem of the
1960's and 1970's counterculture, will perform at the Watchung Arts
Center's
Folk Concert Series at Fisher Hall, Wilson Memorial Church, on Friday, June
7.
Melanie's unforgettable performance at Woodstock in 1969 brought her into
the worldwide spotlight. She then recorded a string of hit songs, including
"What Have They Done To My Song, Ma," "Candles In the Rain (Lay Down, Lay
Down)", "Brand New Key," and "Peace Will Come (According to Plan)." By
1974,
she had earned three Gold Records, a pair of ASCAP awards for her
songwriting, and designations by both Billboard and Cash Box as #1 Female
Vocalist.
Melanie continues to perform, mostly in large outdoor festivals and
theaters. This coffeehouse performance will be a very rare chance to see
Melanie in a more intimate venue. In addition, "Victim of the Moon," her
first collection of all-new material since 1978, will be available for sale
at the show, in advance of its official release in August.
During the height of her post-Woodstock popularity, Melanie lived in
Monmouth County, NJ. On this one evening, she will return to her former
home
state, to perform in an historic stone church hall, flanked by
floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a memorial garden and a lake. Her son
Beau-Jarred Schekeryk, an accomplished musician himself, will open the show
and will accompany Melanie. Reservations are strongly recommended, as
attendance is limited to 400. Tickets are $25 in advance, $28 at the door,
and may be purchased by mailing a check to the Watchung Arts Center, 18
Stirling Road, Watchung, NJ 07069.
The concert will take place at 8PM at Fisher Hall at Wilson Church, 7
Valley
Road, Watchung, NJ. Parking is available at the church, and at Best Lake,
the Watchung Arts Center, the Watchung Library, and at Watchung Borough
Hall.
I look forward to seeing you then.
All the best.
Scott
