goodbye pork pie hat

good morning bob:
i popped into a local record store last evening (a
perfect spring evening made for walking the town
center before dusk)where i picked up MOA for only
$8.99
which was great. i also picked up a "best of" jeff
beck for $5.99. what does any of this have to do with
the subject? jeff does 'goodbye pork pie hat' which
got me to wondering - as it so often does - as to
whether or not this is considered joni undercover. did
mingus write the music well before it appeared on
joni's cd, or did mingus write the tune specifically
for joni to pen lyrics to it? the song on the beck cd
is credited solely to mingus and there are no lyrics
(with jeff's guitar, lyrics aren't 100% necessary).
just wondering outloud, any help would be, well,
helpful. (i really need a thesaurus).
