Although the turnout was reduced by the mild blizzard, the first
meeting held in the offices of Maxim Group could be considered a
success.
As advertised, Paul Kimmerly discussed the DOD standard five level
Capability Maturity Model for evaluating how competent computer programming
providers are. As Perry Stufflebeam, also from KCSPIN, explained,
CMM is not like a recipe book but more like a book on the theory of
how good kitchens are arranged.
For those who want to see some good practices, it is suggested that
we look into DOD standard 2167a, which has been replaced by
DOD standard 498, and ieee standard 12201, which is in three parts.
It is also suggested that there is much to be gained from taking a
three week intensive Personal Software Process seminar.
The space and refreshments were provided, thanks to Alex Murphy, by the
Maxim Group; members in attendence were
Doug Sparling
Alex Blume
David Nicol
Jeffrey Reed
and
Garret Goebel, who will be presenting the main topic next month, about
maintaining the Class::Contract CPAN module; and design-by-contract
in general.
Next month's meeting will also be held at the Maxim Group conference room.
