It's a company formed by some former LinuxCare folks who are attempting to set up a nationwide/world-wide wireless network. Not exactly "public", but more of a tit for tat service. If you manage a gateway, you get free roaming access. If that isn't good enough, their code is GPL so you could always take it and do your own public network.
I don't mind being a node on such a network... I could even be convinced to put up the $60-75 bucks for a Lucent/Agere ORINOCO PCI 11MBPS WIRELESS ADAPTER 848463055 adapter. David, would you be averse to sticking it in your pay2send box and maintaining it?
Assuming the insurance company covers our antenna which was damaged in the ice store, I might even have something nice to wire it up to...
