KOL. 26 January 2002. Maoists bomb former CNC's home, 15 workers abducted; Residence of APF Chief bombed too. KATHMANDU -- In yet another act of terror by the Maoists, the rebels have bombed the residence of former Chief of Army Staff, Garud Shumsher JB Rana, in Sihorya VDC-5 of Bara district Friday night causing massive damage worth around 1.2 million, our report says. Likewise, in another report from Dang, our correspondent says that at least 15 workers who were heading towards Jhalneta of Rukum district for road building purposes have been abducted from Bangelakuri of Salyan district by Maoists last Wednesday afternoon. The incident has still not been reported so far. The state of the workers, whom our reporter quotes eyewitnesses as saying was taken down from the truck they were traveling in, is still unknown. In Bara district, the former army chief's three-storied residence was demolished by a group of around 40 Maoists at 9 p.m. last night. No casualties have been reported in the incident where at least seven bombs were exploded, our report adds. The incident is reported as the first and the largest caused by the Maoists in the district ever since the declaration of the state of emergency. With the nation still undecided over the extension of the state of emergency at the 21st Session of the Parliament beginning February 10, Maoists have once again launched their attacks in rural parts -- the latest one comes the bombing in the residence of Armed Police Force Chief, Krishna Mohan Shrestha, in Chainpur of Shankuwa Sabha district. According to our reports, Maoists burst a "pressure cooker bomb" Friday night at around 10 p.m. damaging the house of IGP Shrestha and parts of Revenue Collection Office to whom the premises has been rented out to. Relatives of IGP Shrestha had vacated the premises around six months ago. No arrests have been made so far. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
