the DPRK Supreme People's
Assembly, sent today a message of greetings to Aleksander Kwasniewski,

Senior party and state officials celebrate May Day

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Senior party and state officials celebrated
May Day together with workers across
the country on May 1.
Hong Song Nam, Kye Ung Thae, Han Song Ryong and other senior party and
state officials visited the
Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant, the Chollima Steel Works, the Kim Jong Thae
Electric Locomotive Plant, and other
industrial establishments to congratulate and encourage workers on May Day.
They laid floral baskets and bunches of flowers before monuments to
on-the-spot instructions and words of the
three commanders of Mt. Paektu and oil paintings portraying the image of
the President Kim Il Sung among workers at
industrial establishments.
And they congratulated the innovators on their achievements in
production and construction and called at
dormitories and families of workers.
They joined workers in sports and amusement games to enjoy May Day.

Celebrations of May Day held

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- An evening gala of working people of
Pyongyang was held at Kim Il Sung Square
yesterday to celebrate the 110th May Day, the international holiday of
workers the world over.
Present at the gala were Yang Hyong Dop, Choe Yong Rim, Kim Jung Rin,
Kwak Pom Gi and others.
Invited to it were foreign diplomatic envoys and guests here.
The participants rolled a sea of dance of celebration to the melody of
songs such as "Long Live Generalissimo Kim
Il Sung" and "Our General Is Best."
Foreigners joined those dancers to enjoy the holiday.
The participants demonstrated their strong stamina and will to advance
vigorously along the road of socialism,
flying the red flag of revolution under the guidance of the great Kim Jong Il.
Meanwhile, senior party and state officials enjoyed the holiday with
workers in different parts of the country.
Celebration performances, sports and amusement games were held at
stadiums, gymnasiums, parks and pleasure
grounds in the capital and local areas.

National meeting to mark 110th anniversary of May Day

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the Sungri
Motor Plant in Tokchon city, South
Phyongan Province, on May 1 to commemorate the 110th May Day, the
international holiday of workers all over the
world, attended by senior party and state officials.
Present at the meeting were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the
presidium of Supreme People's Assembly,
Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Worker's Party of
Korea, and Kwak Pom Gi, vice-premier of
the cabinets, and others.
Ryom Sun Gil, chairman of the central committee of the General
Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, in his
report said that the revolutionary struggle of the Korean people for
sovereignty, independence and socialism was
unprecedentedly arduous and hard from the outset, but it could advance
along the ever-victorious road, breaking
through trials and difficulties since it was led by the respected Kim Il
Sung, the great leader of the working class.
However hard the road of revolution might be, the working class and
people of Korea have struggled to build a
life by themselves in a Korean style and waged the struggle to preserve the
Juche character and national character in a
unified combination with the struggle to strengthen the international
solidarity of the working class, so that they
remained faithful to national and international duties, the reporter noted,
and went on:
Kim Jong Il, with the same idea of giving priority to the working class
that Kim Il Sung had, put forward the
working class as the hardcore unit in carrying out the revolutionary cause
of Juche and has made a history of
world-wide changes, a history of miracles with his deep trust and love for
the working class and brought to this land a
new world whose master is the working class.
The working class of Korea, he said, will make every effort to cement
internationalist friendship and solidarity
with the working class of all countries in the idea of independence, peace
and friendship and creditably discharge its
sacred international duty for human cause of independence and socialism
under the uplifted revolutionary banner of
independence against imperialism.

Expression of curse and resentment at aggressor forces

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The sharply increasing cases of threatened
bomb attack on the U.S. forces' bases
and installations in South Korea are an expression of the South Korean
people's curse and resentment at the U.S.
aggressor forces in South Korea, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed
commentary.
On receiving on April 26 a phone call to the effect that an explosive
was laid at an installation of the U.S. troops in
South Korea, they ran helter-skelter immediately evacuating Americans from
there and dispatching a team to the scene
to clear it, the commentary says, and goes on:
An anti-U.S. struggle is mounting and U.S. military bases and
installations in South Korea are becoming its
targets.
This is a manifestation of the firm determination of the South Korean
people to achieve through struggle their
desire to give vent to the pent-up grudge against the ogreish U.S. and live
in happiness and peace in the world free
from aggressors. Today the U.S. military bases and facilities are exposed
to the threat of bomb attacks. They will be
blown up tomorrow.
The U.S. should withdraw its aggression troops from South Korea to put
an end to its anachronistic policy of
military presence there. This is the demand of the entire Korean nation and
the times.

Sophism to justify "missile defense" program

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- U.S. undersecretary of state John Holum at a
news conference on April 25 said
that North Korea may make inter-continental ballistic missiles faster than
the speed at which the United States
establishes the "missile defense" system, according to a news report from
New York.
He alleged that Korea's launch of an artificial satellite in 1998 was a
"missile firing test" and that North Korea
today has come very close to the manufacture of more sophisticated weapons
than it.
His remarks betray the U.S. ulterior intention to justify its criminal
"missile defense" program for global military
domination under the pretext of "missile threat" from the DPRK and step it
up in real earnest.

Japan urged to drop nasty trick

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The Japanese ruling party is going to submit
to the diet a "bill on payment of
compensation" to some Koreans in Japan who served as soldiers or employees
in units of the Japanese imperial army.
In this regard Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary says:
The "bill" calls for the payment of "condolence money" or "comfort
money" to the Koreans in Japan who served
as soldiers or employees in units of the Japanese imperial army. This is no
more than an insincere and nominal
compensation to the Koreans in Japan as the bill seriously discriminates
against them, as compared with the Japanese
who served as soldiers or employees in units of the Japanese imperial army.
The "bill" is chiefly aimed to cover up Japan's crime-woven past and
calm down the growing domestic and foreign
public opinion pushing for Japan's settlement of its past by paying a petty
amount of money to them under the name of
"condolence money" and "comfort money," the commentary notes, and goes on:
This poor trick of Japan can convince no one in this civilized world.
The so-called presentation of the "bill on payment of compensation" is
an intolerable hypocrisy and insult to the
Korean people who demand Japan redress its past, and a mockery of justice
and human conscience, the commentary
says, and continues:
It is not for the sake of others but for Japan's sake to make a sincere
apology and compensation with a proper
attitude and stand on the redress of its past.
Japan is seriously mistaken if it thinks it can cheat the world people
by such a cunning and nasty trick. Japan is
well advised to take a right stand and approach to the issue of redressing
its past, though belatedly.

May Day mass rally held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- More than 1,300 South Korean students
reportedly waged a struggle yesterday,
May Day.
They, who planned to have a rally with workers, met at Korea University
and were advancing out of the campus
gate.
When the South Korean authorities blocked their advance with over 3,000
riot policemen, the students staged a
demonstration throwing stones at the police.
Meanwhile, the Federation of South Korean Trade Unions held rallies in
Seoul and 11 other cities to commemorate
May Day and released a statement.
In the statement the federation demanded the South Korean authorities
reduce the working hours and raise the
wage. And it warned that it would launch strike across South Korea in early
June unless the demands are met.

surcoreanos a ellas.
