In January 2014 ago we were in Cochin in Goa, a southern Indian state settled by the Portuguese. Nuns among the settlers made lace and the knowledge has been passed down. I bought a bobbin lace doyley in a shop selling lace and embroidered items by a local women's group so a few years ago lace was still being made commercially in at least one place in India, albeit in small quantities.
