My understanding is that the terms are used differently in the U.S. and in Britain. U.S. Britain Braid plait Tape braid (for a narrow woven band, machine made or hand made)
When I write about things that Include those elements I have taken to using the phrases braid/plait and tape/braid in an attempt at clarity. I don't think we will ever convert one batch of lace makers into adopting the other batch's terminology.
