I am new and have another question for the group that was asked my by a non-member. During the early years of UT history, about 1850's or so, didn't people getting married have to go through a judge or clerk or something or did the LDS church have the authority it needed in marriages? It seems in UT there are very few marriage records until abt the 1870's or so. It seems like the only ones you can find are in the church. Can someone help me answer this. Was there not a need any other authority to get permission to marry, except the church? In some places they at least had to have a marriage bond, there doesn't seem to be anything in UT. I would appreciate someone's help in answering. I work with lots of non-member in the library and sometimes they pose questions I can't answer. ==== LDS-GENEALOGY Mailing List ==== FamilySearch Internet is now online!
