As a non-member looking for Scottish ancestors I have come across some relatives who are shown more than once on the IGI. For instance, I found one mentioned 3 times - as a patron submission - as an entry on the original Scottish Birth records (which were filmed/microfiched by the LDS with permission of the Scottish Record Office) and as a family sealing. In such a situation I get my information from the original Scottish records although I wondered if I would be entitled to apply for the other information. My family member was born in 1825, had the same maiden-name as myself and was the granddaughter of my 5xgrandfather.
