If you keep pictures in the family, say give them to the family archivist (Almost every family has one..... I sort of am for mine) then you can almost guarantee that your pictures will be safe. Many of those people are trying to make a living, and many times because they're selling those pictures.... rather than burning them, then the family member who would kill for one of them, may find it someday. I know, that many photos are given up that should never have been. At a junk shop I found a pile of old photos, and I bought them all for 6 dollars. Included was a funeral book (which I have now since lost, but I did copy down the info included in it) and I have begun to piece together their lives. I have back to the 1840's on one line, and the turn of the century on the other lines. This family first brought me into family history two years ago, and they have become my family. I have found 2 relatives of these people, a nephew thru marriage and a distant cousin in Salt Lake, who I have shared my research with. Both are excited, although one has not contacted me since I told him I was not blood-related. If those who say "My family is all done...." Would go someplace where old photos are sold, and begin to piece together the lives of those in them, you'll find its an exciting adventure. I don't really know who they are, and I believe I have more information on this branch of the Wolford family from southern New Jersey than anyone. Its a shame that someone threw them away, but its been a blessing to me...... I, being a non-genealogist at the time, who knew nothing of it..... found them and realized that they are people too. They're people whose family threw away their past, or even sold them to this junk shop. I believe this poor family found ME, and decided to preserve their family history they had to get ME into genealogy. Well, I have and I have a 100 person gedcom which started from 50 mostly unlabeled photographs, a newspaper clipping and a dusty old funeral book...... Just my thought, don't throw those old pictures away. It would be a shame for those people who have gone on before us. If you throw them away, some poor 16 yr old who doesn't know about family history may find them and be just like me.... Begin researching that forgotten family. BTW, I now do work on my own family, but I still hold a special place for my Wolford-Keins. Brad p.s. For those who are interested in Wolfords, Evans, Lashley, Lipsey and Mayhew from southern NJ, or Kein and Ginn from NY\NJ and Hoeger\Hammer from Philadelphia..... CONTACT ME! Especially on the Wolfords, I know most about them. And I will photocopy some pictures to share if you're related to my 'family'. ==== LDS-GENEALOGY Mailing List ====
