It is generally well-known in the genealogy community
that from about 1992 to about 1996, the LDS Church ran
a testing program for use of the DOS-based
FamilySearch system in the home.  About 800 people
tested the system there before the test was scrapped,
but they were allowed to keep the CDs and I assume,
get updates.
