I did, and as expected (you tested before) ntpd works. Now I am wondering where the differnce between theee initrd packages are. Still a number of differences, although I rebuilt initrd from scratch. Some modules are identical, some are not, this is a real surprise. Unless the compiler plays Monte Carlo I have no explanation.
