Has anybody used War-FTPD on the inside of an Eigerstein LRP? I've
put it up, and it works from some networks and not from others -- I can
dial into different ISP's and depending upon which one I use, I can't
get to my War-FTPD server behind my LRP.

When I use DOS ftp, I get the username/passwd prompt and can do pwd, cd,
mkdir, rmdir, etc. However, as soon as I try to do an ls -l or get, it
just hangs. In the case of an ls -l, I get a message:

200 Port command okay.
150 Opening ASCII NO-PRINT mode data connection for ls -l.

But nothing ever comes back.

I'm assuming that the whole passive connection thing doesn't apply to me
since I'm using named username and passwords as opposed to anonymous --
or does that make a difference? I've tried to read about the difference
between active and passive modes, and know that active is easier to
setup and use. Is the issue NAT'ing? If there is NAT going on boths
sides of the ftp, it seems to happen (the hanging), but if it is only on
the server side, it doesn't (no hanging). The thing I don't understand
is if the client (on the inside of a firewall) has ftp (20,21) wide open
from the inside (albeit NAT'd), why doesn't the connection work?

When I use my Qwest DSL connection (with a Cisco 675 DSL router which
NAT's me to 10.0.0.x) to DOS ftp to my Cable Modem (where the LRP is -
from a wholly different provider with an entirely different network), I
can do a DOS ftp just fine without any problems....If I go to work and
try to DOS ftp to my home, I get the hanging problem. That would lead
me to believe that it is a problem with my corporate firewall. However,
from work, I can do a DOS FTP to ftp.rpmfind.net and everything works
fine -- no hanging.

Can anybody help me out? I'm at wits end....

thanks.

mike.
