The last time when I looked at mach, it seemed quite outdated, and rpmstrap seemed to be mor up to date. Now, rpmstrap looks a bit outdated (e.g. FC4 is the newest Fedora there), and mach seems to support more distributions... For fedora, you can also use yum - which _theoretically_ should also be able to bootstrap redhat, centos, and suse systems, but I heard at least that there is no working yum repository or config for suse, don't know about the others.
