Freelance Design Researcher
---------------
News Digital Media is looking for a 6 month freelance Design Researcher
to conduct customer research and extrapolate meaningful and practical
design recommendations to be reported back to the design team and
business stakeholders. The Design researcher would be responsible for the
following:
* Be responsible for conducting or leading people-centred
research techniques for all network products over
multiple mediums and environments (e.g. web, PDA,
interactive tv, etc.).
* Ensuring that all development projects have strong
people-centred approach so that the final outcomes meet
the target audiences needs.
* Developing new techniques and processes to uncover the
knowledge we require about people who use our products
and the ways they interact with our sites.
* Translate this research into clear objectives and usable
results, highlighted in terms of reports, concept
models, story boards, mock-ups, etc.
* Communicating the results of the research to the business
and to development teams.
* Working closely with the EA's to implement the findings in
to the information design of each product.
* Help identify and substantiate future trends in the
industry through the use of research.
* Working closely with the business teams to define and
adopt processes to support user needs.
The successful candidate must have the following competencies:
* Demonstrated experience of conducting in-depth,
ethnographic and usability-based customer research and
extrapolating relevant and tangible design findings for
large complex, public-facing web sites.
* Strong prior experience in working effectively within
multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent analytical ability, especially with regard to
observation of user behaviour.
* 3+ years experience of designing and conducting an
extensive range of user research studies, including,
ethnographic field studies, qualitative field
interviews, contextual inquiries, usability studies etc.
* Demonstrated experience in developing design innovation
based on the interpretation and analysis of research.
* Strong oral and written communication skills; can present
findings concisely and effectively.
* Excellent analytical ability, especially with regard to
observation of human behaviour.
* Demonstrated ability to design web and other digital
interfaces.
* Excellent information design skills.
* Ability to work independently, and effectively prioritize
time between multiple projects.
* Ability to work with flexible timelines and budgets to
achieve effective and appropriate results.
