Hey Luters,
This is only dimly related to the list, but I thought I'd pass
it on anyway. Here are some videos of the premiere performance of my
"Planet Ennui" concerto for two classical guitars and rock band that I
did with my student ensemble at Northern Kentucky University this past
Friday.
"How is this at all related to my predilection for things
ancient," you ask? A few reasons:
A) I performed my solo part on an original (anonymous) Lacote-style
19th-century guitar, c.1860 (That's me standing and directing "from the
keyboard" as it were)
B) Part 3 of the the piece is based in large part on a cantus firmus
snippet of chant and there are lots of allusions to the practice of
Leonin, Perotin, et al. You will also note the clever use of the first
and sixth rhythmic modes as well ;-)
C) I can use the hits.

Feel free to leave comments. Just don't tell me that the sound and
picture quality are bad: I know!
Enjoy.
Chris
