It is an application of the rules of 'perfection' as was common in renaissance mensural notation. Morley writes about this, it is a form of notation that was in the process of being abandoned during the 16th c. Not an error at all, understood by students of renaissance music, not commonly seen in lute music as it is principally written using the faster notes which were always in duple relationships. -- Dana Emery To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
