Well I'm not with you on this point... If you can't hear where the instrument is best sounding... and best can be objective (ask some acoustician specialists or as I said, ask a luthier...)There's no such thing as sound that's objectively best. As soon as you say "best" you've eliminated objectivity from consideration.
I think people who listened to krumhorns might enjoy buzzing strings. --Have you ever heard well played krumhorns quartet ? Heavenly melodies ;-))))
