By the way, a few months ago I created a few programs (on the IBM iSeries) for a customer that sends HTML mails to their customers.
The public relations department insisted on sending HTML mails since they look much better than plain text. I used very basic html features (unordered lists, very simple tables, bold and italic) only, and we did some testing with different clients as iPhone, Android, Microsoft Phone (yes, one of the guys in the IT department has got one), outlook, Lotus and a few others. As long as you use only primitive HTML they almost look the same on most clients - almost.
