I haven't been following closely -- too busy at the moment. But from
what I can tell, the problem on OS X is simply inconvenience for the
user. If we -- I -- bundle elyxer in the LyX.app bundle, then it's
transparently there for users. So instead of every user having to do
this individually with each LyX release, I'd just do it once and for
all (for each release).

   
Sounds reasonable, if this is a Mac-specific issue. And of course, it's 
up to you what you bundle.
