this doesnt solve much. you will have problem to compile it even under 4.4.

my 'solution' is to have qt 4.2 locally compiled without instalation and run 
its designer for .ui work.
   

I thought the problem with 4.4 was the compatibility of the fixes to 
make it compatible with 4.2 ui files? or something like that...
