I guess the question is to know whether they are handled reasonably easily
with Windows and macOS.
7-zip, Winrar, double commander should be able to deal with it, but it's not
native to
explorer (unlike .tar.gz).
Windows 11 file explorer can handle .tar.xz files (unlike Windows 10).
