I manage all my 150+ references with kbibtex, and lyx uses the same bibtex file without any problems. I use google scholar to show the bibtex reference for a new article (you have to configure google scholar first), or I export to a .res file and open this with kbibtex and copy it over to my main bibtex source, remembering to select a new resource identifier for the reference (kbibtex gives you a pulldown list of alternatives). Works without problems ... including foreign characters. Sometime though, the google bibtex references are not complete so I edit them (with kbibtex) to make sure they have what I want, including a link to the PDF version of the article through DOI or on my hard drive.
