Ah - I checked with my other <favourite> -- SWP. In SWP, the path for the 
bibliography files is set up in the *editor*, *not* in the document. Thus, 
these kinds of problems are avoided. Maybe I can do the same in LyX...

It would be better if LyX skipped the <C:/Users/<username>/", and inserted this 
part automatically based on the actual user set-up. The way it is now, the file 
location is hard coded.

Where is the document? I thought we tried to use relative paths.

The best way is to put your BibTeX file in a place where LaTeX will find it, 
and then define the BIBINPUTS environment variable to point there.

This can be different on the two machines. Then LyX will jut record the file as 
"yourfile.bib" or whatever.
