Better Finder Rename hits v5.0

This webmaster's tool can now create task specific applications

Frank Reiff has updated his A Better Finder Rename (BFR) to v5.0.  This powerful, yet 
easy-to-use utility transforms the often tedious and time-consuming task of renaming 
multiple files into a simple matter of seconds. A Better Finder Rename is well suited 
for Macintosh webmasters, users who need to transfer files from Windows or UNIX, as 
well as for all other Macintosh users who deal with large numbers of files. 

New features include:

• create stand-alone "droplet" applications to automate frequent renaming tasks,
• file names and extensions can now be renamed separately or together,
• new icon designs,
• full support for 255 character file names,
• correct sorting for file names of more than 64 characters,
• preferences stored as Carbon property lists,
• improved installer, etc.

Though not mentioned in the app's description, it's also well-suited for renaming the 
dozens and dozens of photos created by digital cameras. For example, my Sony tags 
every pic with DSC followed by a number, which is particularly helpful. BFR is a 
godsend in this regard because it allows the user to apply a naming convention quickly 
and easily, as opposed to renaming each file individually.
