Iomega adds data recovery service

A diversified approach to storage solutions and services is the name of the game

Iomega has announced the introduction Iomega Data Recovery Services. The new service
offers businesses and consumers a comprehensive solution for recovering lost data due
to hardware failure, file corruption or media damage.

"Most businesses have a backup plan, but nothing is completely fool-proof," said
Robert Borden, vice president of customer advocacy, Iomega Corporation. "That's why
businesses and consumers need a reliable partner when data disaster strikes. With
Iomega Data Recovery Services, our customers can turn to Iomega for industry-leading
quality and responsive customer service in helping them through the crisis."

When a primary or backup storage system fails, Iomega Data Recovery Services provides
a risk-free approach to attempt recovery of important data -- no matter whether the
data loss is caused by a hard drive crash, a forgotten password, an unreadable tape, a
controller failure, damaged media, or an accidentally deleted or overwritten file.

Service features include:

• Free evaluations and estimates
• Priority and Critical-Response Service levels
• In-lab or optional on-site service for critical jobs with 24/7 emergency help
• Convenient online progress tracking
• The flexibility of recovered data returned in any format, on any media
• An industry-leading guarantee: 100-percent customer satisfaction that recovered data
is valid and usable, or there is no charge

Supported operating environments include Mac, Windoze, Novell NetWare, UNIX and Linux
operating systems.

Iomega Data Recovery Services are available today through Iomega's network of IoLink
Resellers or online. Costs and turnaround time vary depending on the complexity of the
recovery case. Typically, recoveries for a single hard drive take one to five days
with prices starting at $500.

Editor's note: Iomega continues to diversify yet still remains focussed on storage.
The emphasis on integration and services is probably the right direction considering

BTW, if $500 and up seems dear (and it is), you need to juxtapose that cost against
the total loss of data that can occur when a hard disk or removable disk goes bad.
