Perhaps there can be a sort of casual prejudice which is a sign merely of an unthinking, rather than of an irrational approach: so I'm inclined to stand by my phrase 'irrational prejudice' rather than just 'prejudice'. I'd rather like to think (which is no reason to think) that V understood, in a rational way, that the Empire was bound to receive an intellectual contribution from a certain variety of races: as indeed it was. - Martin Hughes ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yvonne Rathbone" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

By 'racism' I mean 'irrational prejudice on grounds of race or
nationality', which I think accords with current usage.

Racism is more than prejudice. It's a systematic bias based on prejudice
against particular ethnic groups. The consistent inability to recognize
the difference between racism and prejudice feeds into racism.
