A very useful article, thanks. As I've pointed out ad nauseam, the computing power needed to track fluctuations in currencies and futures is almost entirely wasted from a social point of view. By contrast, the computing power needed to handle the algorithms of a Leontief input-output table for managing the economy in a democratic socialist fashion would fit on the cheapest PC. By the way, the nomination fight over Betsy Devos exposes another huge waste of computing power: in education, as in health care, government agencies are imposing irrational quantitative "quality measures" which require teaching or practicing to the test. Meanwhile the more socially relevant calculations - i.e. student/teacher or patient/provider ratios - could almost be done by counting fingers and toes. _________________________________________________________ Full posting guidelines at: http://www.marxmail.org/sub.htm Set your options at: http://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
