Ah, my apologies, I should have warned you about Musk and the traditions he carries.

During the 1980s this lad was a victim of merciless bullying at a Johannesburg school not far from where I write. Before apartheid ended, the reproduction of racial patriarchy included social brutalities that also victimised smart, sensitive white kids. The poor fellow ran off to Canada. http://www.biznews.com/undictated/2015/07/21/why-elon-musk-has-little-affection-for-the-brutal-land-where-he-grew-up/

But South Africa's exports - such as climate-cooking coal, blood-stained platinum, silicosis-tinged coal and exploitation-saturated wine - include two features that Elon Musk may well embody.

 * First, we have the most corrupt capitalist class in the world (since
   2014), according to PricewaterhouseCoopers:

http://www.pwc.com/gx/en/services/advisory/consulting/forensics/economic-crime-survey.html
 * Second, given worsening patterns of super-exploitation here, we
continue to boast the most militant working class on earth (since
2012), according to the World Economic Forum:
   http://reports.weforum.org/global-competitiveness-index/

Johannesburg and Cape Town capitalists like the Oppenheimers (Anglo American, AngloGold Ashanti and De Beers) and Ruperts (Rembrandt), and executives of South African Breweries, Gencor (BHP Billiton), Sasol, Old Mutual, Liberty Life, Investec, Didata, MTN, etc etc are ravaging workers, consumers and the environment all over the world. (Not content with having the world's most extreme single point-source site of CO2 emissions at its gas/coal-to-oil plant in Secunda southeast of Joburg, Sasol is now building a similar $15 billion refinery in Louisiana.)

Given Musk's background in white South Africa (a society that has never owned up to profiting from a crime against humanity), no wonder he's perfectly comfortable normalising Donald J Trump: http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/09/investing/elon-musk-tesla-stock-donald-trump/

And Trump needs such enablers: /"In the weeks since Musk met with Trump, the president has rolled back //fuel efficiency standards <https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/mar/15/car-pollution-carbon-emissions-obama-trump-epa>//for vehicles, signed an executive order to undo Barack Obama’s //clean power plan <https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/mar/28/trump-clean-power-plan-executive-order-coal-industry>//, and //proposed a budget <https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/mar/16/trump-budget-cuts-climate-change-clean-up-programs-epa>//that would gut the Environmental Protection Agency’s climate change, pollution and energy efficiency programs."/

And no wonder he has also funded the US Senate's main climate denialists: James Inhofe, Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell. http://www.elondumptrump.com/campaign_contributions

Maybe a boycott/pressure campaign by a fellow capitalist will have some impact: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/apr/19/elon-dump-trump-climate-change-doug-derwin and http://www.elondumptrump.com/

But the only durable campaign would be one fusing labour, social and environmental values... so more power to the Tesla workers to stand up and discipline this phony futurist.
