US SUPPORT FOR THE SO-CALLED KLA

The US government continues to supply with arms Albanian terrorists in
Kosovo-Metohija. The Tanjug news agency has learnt that the US administration recently
armed more than 3,500 Albanian extremists under the auspices of the so-called Kosovo
Protection Corps. A commentary by Daniela Dobozanovic.

>From the very beginning, there has been no serious approach towards one of the
>priority tasks of the UN peace mission – to disarm members of the separatist and
>terrorist so-called KLA. Not only have extremists been given an unusually long period
>of 90 days to surrender arms, but this deadline has even been extended. Day-to-day
>attacks on Serbs and other non-Albanians including murder, rape, expulsion and
>destruction of their property testify to the tolerant stand of KFOR and UNMIK towards
>members of the so-called KLA. At the same time, the self-willed and illegal decision
>of KFOR and UNMIK to transform the so-called KLA into the Kosovo Protection Corps
>constituted a support for Albanian separatist goals. Namely, on September 20 last
>year, the then head of the civil mission, Bernard Kouchner, and British General
>Michael Jackson, reached agreement with the leaders of the so-called KLA, Hashim
>Tachi and Agim Cheku on an alleged transformation of this terrorist organization. The
>Kosovo Protection Corps is conceived as an alleged civilian organization whose main
>task would be to offer aid in emergency situations, safeguard relief convoys etc.
>Under the design, it should number three thousand active members, two thousand
>reservists and only 200 members would be granted the right to carry arms. However, on
>January 21, the former leaders of the so-called KLA, took an oath of service as
>commanders of a mono-ethnic Kosovo Protection Corps. News agencies say that the
>members of the formally disbanded KLA took an oath in the premises of the UN mission
>in Pristina. The real nature of the so-called Kosovo Protection Crops is best
>described by the fact that in Gnjilane in early March, a barracks in the so-called
>sixth zone of this corps was open, which was observed by KFOR US members. This
>demonstrates that the US actually grants the Kosovo Protection Corps legitimacy as a
>military and armed corps of Albanian terrorists. Reports on the existence of the
>center for the training of Albanian extremists has caused anxiety among Ser
bs and other non-Albanians, and the fact that US officers are involved in the training
makes the anxiety even greater. The fact that US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright
recently ordered the Chief Prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal, Carla del Ponte, to omit
the self-proclaim leader of the so-called KLA Hashim Tachi from the list of war crimes
indictees is the best confirmation that Albanian extremists are actually the protégés
of the US administration.
