Dear list, I had been looking for the "famous" film excerpt of Mascagni conducting his Nerone for a while, and I finally found it thanks to a fellow Mascagnano! It is a shame that such a historical document, maybe the only film footage of Mascagni that we have, featuring the composer and conductor at age 71 at La Scala, is almost completely unavailable, and that not a single reference to it is to be found on the web. It was time to fix this: I just created a web page with information on this item, complete with a slide-show extracted from the film, the film itself in DivX format, and a sound-only excerpt in MP3 format, for everybody to enjoy: http://www.mascagni.org/movies/nerone The video is of relatively mediocre quality, but the sound is good for the time compared to some 78 rpm issues of this aria. The excerpt that I have is only 1 minute and 42 seconds long. There was obviously initially more recorded material. If anybody is aware of a longer version or of other film footage of Mascagni, I would be thrilled to hear about it! At the same time I put online a couple of pictures of Apollo Granforte posing as Menecrate, a character of Mascagni's Nerone: http://www.mascagni.org/pictures/granforte Other sound excertps from Nerone are available here: http://www.mascagni.org/works/nerone/sounds Enjoy, -Erik -- Unsubscribe by sending unsubscribe in the body to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
