Dear list,
A new section of the Web site is now dedicated to scans of original
documents such as articles, books, brochures, libretti, scores,
etc. The first documents available are:
1. Libretto of Pinotta, by Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti (12 pages). A
libretto printed rather cheaply in 1932. That copy had never been
used and the pages were not even cut!
2. Brochure for the movie Regina della Scala (7 pages, actually 8
pages but the central page is double), a superb document from 1937
in perfect condition. The first page is entirely dedicated to
Nerone. You see Mascagni with his baton, the setting from Act II in
the background, the scene of the death of Egloge, and the
orchestra. The rest of the brochure contains the movie billboard,
many pictures from the movie, and details the plot.
3. Viola Allen In Hall Caine's The Eternal City (18 pages). This is
the manifesto from 1902 I mentioned in an earlier posting about The
Eternal City. The document is also in perfect condition. It
contains a blurb about Viola Allen and the plot of the play. A
dedicated photo album shows the pictures from the document:

4. Piano score of the Intermezzo from The Eternal City (4 pages).
5. Piano score of the New World Processional (6 pages). This is a work
about which not much is known. It was written for the 1904
St. Louis exposition. I don't know if the instrumentation was for
an orchestra, a band or some other formation, but the only score
remaining seems to be the piano reduction. Please note that the
version presented here was kindly scanned for Mascagni.org by the
Smithsonian Institution, and that further reproduction is not
allowed without their consent.
The documents are available here:

More documents will follow.
