Dear list, An entire 92-page book dedicated to the Opera was published in 1935 on the occasion of the premiere of Nerone: http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504306 This copy has unfortunately suffered water damage, but most of the book is intact. It contains a number of pictures and the following essays: Rettificazioni Mascagnane, by Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti Il primo coro di "Cavalleria" e il primo figlio..., by Pietro Mascagni Da "Pietrino" a Pietro... il grande, by Sabatino Lopez Mascagni e il capolavoro, by Arnaldo Fraccaroli Verdi e Mascagni, by Edoardo Pompei Pietro Mascagni operista del popolo, by Innocenzo Cappa Sue "recentissime", by Luciano Ramo I ritratti di Nerone, by Pericle Ducati Nerone nella storia della musica, by Luigi Rognoni Il libretto dell'Opera, by Gino Cornali Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti, by Giovanni Orsini La prima audizione, by Giovanni Cenzato Mascagni visto sul podio, by Lucio D'ambra I miei settantun anni..., by Pietro Mascagni Freschi mattini, by Renzo Sacchetti Nerone - fu poi tanto... nero?, by Aldo Zucchini L'ombrello, by Emy Mascagni The most interesting pictures from the book are available online. The first series shows the first reading of Nerone with the main interprets (Aureliano Pertile, Margherita Carosio, Apollo Granforte, Lina Bruna Rasa) and a pianist (maestro Marzollo). The sessions took place on October 28, 1934, at the albergo Corallo in Livorno: http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504309 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/503310 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/503313 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/503312 The second picture is particularly interesting because it shows Mascagni singing! Margherita Carosio appears to be quite a beautiful lady. She was about 27 at the time of this session. I am not sure I can recognize her as one of the actresses featured in the Regina della Scala document, with all the makeup and costumes. Is this her? http://www.mascagni.org/book-reader/image/504397/4/50 Another series from the same session shows Mascagni's face during the session: http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504323 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504324 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504325 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504326 Finally, three pictures show him playing his favorite sport, tamburello: http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504330 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504331 http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504332 Compare with this one, probably from 1920: http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504133 The book also shows a pictures of Mascagni in the costume of the Academy: http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/504307 Compare with this one: http://www.mascagni.org/framed-images/112 Enjoy, -Erik -- Unsubscribe by sending unsubscribe in the body to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
