Dear list,

1. Thanks to Christian Zwarg, the missing vocal excerpts from the 1914
Fonotipia recording sessions of Parisina are now available online!
   The missing excerpts were:

     "O fiore di mia vita"
     "Giungesti in punto"
     "Mercé, Maria! Mercé"
     "Ah, serra ancóra"

We now know, from the Fonotipia ledgers, that the recording
sessions took place in mid-to-late April 1914 (we actually know the
exact date for each session). Mascagni is confirmed as the
conductor of five orchestral excerpts recorded on April 30. He
probably also conducted the vocal sessions. One of the orchestral
excerpts, "Canto dell'usignolo", is available on the Web site. Two
other excerpts, "Offerta alla Madonna" and "Delirio di Parisina",
are documented. I should get information about the remaining two
pieces soon. The music for four of the orchestral pieces is still
   missing from the puzzle!

The excerpts are all available here:

I recommend "Meglio campar la vita in arme", "Vittoria!" and
"Vogliate qui sedere" to get an idea of the power of Alessandro
Dolci's voice. How lucky we would be to have a voice like his
   today!

If you don't want to download the music from the Web site,
Christian offers a CD-R version of these excerpts.

2. Two new scores have been added. First, a score of the Ave Maria
adapted from the intermezzo of Cavalleria Rusticana, Italian words
by P. Mazzoni, English words by F. E. Weatherly. This American
edition is not dated, but I guess it is from the early 20th
century, if not the late 19th century. Second, "He loves
me... loves me not" or "M'ama... non m'ama", English version by
   G. Henschel, copyright 1892. This is a European edition. Both
   scores are available here:

Recordings of those pieces are listed here:

3. Two new images continue the American thread:

The first one is a colored engraving showing Mascagni's arrival in
   New York in December 1902:

It is a follow-up to Mascagni's arrest in Boston in November 1902:

The following postcard shows two dedications of Mascagni to the
Santuzza of the American tournee, Elena Bianchini-Cappelli, made in
New York and Boston in late 1902:
