I just posted a copy of "A pensiero a San Francisco", a fragment for piano composed by Mascagni on February 20, 1903 when visiting San Francisco. You can access the scan from here:
This is a scan of a clipping from the San Francisco chronicle. The paper has aged and the quality is not too good, but it is legible. Although I haven't been able to find this page in the San Francisco Chronicle archives (I had to go through the Library of Congress to obtain this copy), the dotted frame appears to be typical of that newspaper.
