I just posted a new article about Mascagni's visit to San Francisco in 1903. The article was published in the program of the San Francisco Opera for the current performances of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci:
As of today, three more performances will take place in San Francisco, on the following dates:
o Wed, Oct 8, 2003 at 7:30 PM (today) o Sat, Oct 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM o Fri, Oct 17, 2003 at 8:00 PM
The old production by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle is quite interesting albeit a little challenging at times, and the cast of Cavalleria Rusticana is very good, with Antonio Nagore as Turiddu and Andrea Gruber as Santuzza, finely conducted by Marco Armiliato. Don't miss this if you are in Northern California or can make it there!

Opera San Jose, a smaller institution, is also doing Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci in November. More information is available on their Web site:
