As somebody kindly reminded me, today is the anniversary of the premiere of
Cavalleria Rusticana, which took place on May 17, 1890. That's 114 years of
fame for Mascagni, and a good opportunity to listen to a piece from this
wonderful work and maybe also, to the speech that Mascagni gave on the
occasion of the 50-year anniversary in 1940:
