[mascagni-interest] Mascagni's birthday

Dear list,

I missed it, but of course December 7 was Mascagni's birthday. It's
not too late to celebrate with some music! Or maybe, it's time to get
closer again to Mascagni the man by listening to his 1938 speech:

The date of December 7 coincides with the reopening of the Teatro alla
Scala in Milan after 3 years of renovation:

The season at La Scala traditionally opens on that date, which was
also the date Mascagni usually chose to start composing a new opera
(although right now I cannot find where I read that - maybe in the
book Mascagni Parla?).
