Introduction
The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery together form the
Smithsonian's museums of Asian art. The galleries are devoted to the research,
acquisition, exhibition, care and management of the renowned collections of
Asian art in each museum and American art in the Freer Gallery. The mission of
the Galleries is to encourage enjoyment and understanding of the arts of Asia
and the cultures that produced them, and to use works of art to inspire study
and provoke thought. The two museums are co-administered and share the same
staff.

The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day and long term photographic
needs for the museum. The incumbent will complete photography and other digital
imaging assignments and services, including production of high-resolution still
and video images of the Museum's collection objects that will be used as
educational, commercial, promotional and informational output for the museum.
The incumbent will use photographic standards and best practices to ensure the
safe and efficient flow of work. Will need to provide, as needed, reports on
photographic equipment needs and research of new photographic technologies.

Incumbent must demonstrate skill in photographing fine art with high- end
photography hardware and software. Must be able to resolve special technical
problems such as photographing the reflective properties of object surfaces to
eliminate glare and reflections, adjusting colors or enhancing contrasts, and
rendering fine details or exact color renditions using specialized lighting to
illuminate cavities or minute parts of an object. Must be able to communicate
clearly and tactfully with high-level museum personnel and business
representatives.

The position is located in the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery building in
Washington, DC. The salary range is $66,510-$86,460 (equivalent to a grade 11
