The livelihoods framework is a valuable tool for researching the
impact of mobiles.  It helps explain how mobile affects assets and
alters livelihood strategies.

But the framework has shortcomings for mobile research: its
agriculture-oriented understanding of "assets"; its silence on the
developmental role of information and on user appropriation of
technology; and its narrow categorisation of impact.

A revised version of the livelihoods framework has therefore been
developed to address these shortcomings:
