Aside from the squirrels who savagely ate a butternut squash we left in our wagon out back this weekend, our biggest brush with nature was a sharp-shinned hawk (a stately, medium-sized brownish bird) who brought down another bird and enjoyed a regal, if bloody, dinner on our driveway.
