It was not my purpose to start a discussion about presidential politics, but to call attention to how our LOCAL MINNEAPOLIS newspaper covers the news, both local (i.e., Councilmember Johnson Lee's traffic citation which was actually non-news) and national (why our LOCAL MINNEAPOLIS paper chooses to cover some presidential candidates while marginalizing others). Thanks, Jim Mork, for a refreshing perspective on whether or not our LOCAL MINNEAPOLIS newspaper merits comparasion with the Johannasburgh Times. Indeed, just a few days before the 1990 mid-term election the Strib ran a very good editorial taking Senate candidate Paul Wellstone to task for heartlessly distancing himself from former gang members who had leafleted for him. And as recently as February of this year the editorial page did take a stand against police brutality towards the homeless citizens of Minneapolis. So from time to time The Strib is capable of genuine insight and clarity, but those moments, unfortunately, are few and far between.------------Peter Schmitz CARAG TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1.
