RYBAK 350 South Fifth Street - Rm. 331 Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415-1393 612-673-2100 Fax 612-673-2305 URGENT MEDIA ALERT Contact: Jeremy Hanson Phone: 612-673-2785 September 13, 2005 Mobile: 612-306-5274 21 Minneapolis Police Officers Deployed To New Orleans Unit Part of 80-officer Minnesota Contingent Led By Minneapolis LieutenantWHAT: Twenty-one Minneapolis Police officers in 10 squad cars are being deployed to New Orleans, where theyll assist local officials in the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.
The officers will leave Minneapolis for a two-week stay to work directly with the New Orleans Police Tactical Unit. The Minneapolis officers are part of an 80-person unit from four Minnesota law enforcement agencies. The entire Minnesota contingent will be under the command of Minneapolis Police Lt. Otto Wagenpfeil, who is a New Orleans native. The Minnesota contingent led by Lt. Wagenpfeil will include officers from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington and Ramsey County.
City officials will participate in a brief ceremony to send off the Minneapolis officers and will then be available for public comment.
