The communities of translators (that's *human* translators) and MT
developers have limited interaction. Translators are not often
attracted to fully automated translation, and MT developers have
concluded that translators are not the most promising potential
customers. But surely with all the sophistication of MT systems, there
are components, at least, that could be put to work to help translators
as they would like to be helped? And surely in the wide world of
translators, there are some who are ready to leverage the full realm of
available tools and technology? We are proposing a workshop, sponsored by AMTA, to be held at the ATA (American Translator's Association) conference in Tampa, Florida (Nov 5-8, 2008) "to bring together professional translators and MT developers to better understand each other's objectives and concerns and to explore mutually beneficial ways to cooperate." If you are an MT developer and would be interested in sending a representative to participate in this workshop, please contact me: Laurie Gerber Treasurer, AMTA [EMAIL PROTECTED] 619-523-8550 |
