I am hesitant because of the obvious "religious" belief systems presnted here, I dont mean religious in the sense of "god" but the apriori belief that the dominant paradigm having all answers, despite the fact that obviously, some push against both the dominanat paradigms in our culture can be seen here
Ok, here goes I lived in Oregon for a couple years and befriended a lady, around the time of the biscuit fire her husbamd was on the line for quite a while and decided to come home he came home uncharactersitically quiet, and withdrawn this guy was very imposing, a strong guy, as imaginative as brick and just about as sensitive but usually warm and caring about his spouse and kids, this time he was drnking more tha usual, sitting in front of the tv, or laying in bed, pacing the house at night. After nearly a couple weeks , and plenty of hours of trying to talk to him, and commiserating with me, I got a call. They were picking me up, HE wanted me to come along. (At this time she stated one of his friends that was on the line with him, just picked up and moved to new york, or maine, the day they back from the fire) They picked me up and we drove to Flornce then in toward Eugene, after a while we pulled of the "highway" to a road, all this time HE said little words, no picikng, no teasing ,which was his normal behavior with me, semiagressive remarks) except saying thanks for coming. I asked what was going on and she said he got a call, got his mother to watch the kids, begged his wife to call me and said they were going on adrive. After about 45 minutes half hour we pulled up along a ridge, and there was another car there. Across the road was a wide depression, a little valley a stream ran along one edge and turning to pass us, in the middle wasa field with tall grasses, various plants, the woods cupping it on the three sides, but open where we could see. I was getting excited. His friend came up with a beer can in hand, He shook his head, his wife took one, and I still had my pop. I followed as both guys walked to the jeep and leaned against it, and I did the same. What bigfoot is what I though, maybe a UFO, who knows, late afternoon, in the cascades watch for what, about another hour the sun was bright but falling, there was a breeze, nothing too strong, Could hear the stream, which was about 20 feet wide. She and I chatted quietly, the guys just stood, watching the little "valley. All standing waiting. Then I felt a nudge, my friend was looking intently at the field and nodded for me to look. At the outside edge of the woods, walked two women. NAtive looking wearing flannels and jeans. I could see them clearly. Coming from the woods, to the stream, they waded in, it wasnt very deep, about mid calf, you could hear them moving through the water. then when thet were half way through the stream there were two deer, two does. No blurring, no stripping of clothes, no hollywood transformations. Two women, two deer. the deer came out of the stream and started foraging and I watched. Normal deer behavior, nothing odd. We watched till they moved off into the woods on the other side of the "valley" about half and hour maybe more. When they disappeared, the guys got into their cars, she and I followed. We drove into eugene, went to some asian restuarnat The guys started talking. They decided when coming back to go off and get high a little, before coming home. They drove off and sat where we were, thinking far enuff in. Then they saw the two women, one of the guys, the guy that moved east started making suggestions when they saw the transformation. They freaked. Drove out fast. The friend I met said he moved from forest grove to eugene, just to be close, he noticed that the women always do their thing on weds and randomly on other days, the clothes are different usually, and he found tracks of the women and the deer, he also thought he saw the women in florence and eugene, but kept loosing them Both guys were freaked, my friend and I both are into the occult, and for us this was a cool thing, neither of us felt fear, no weird feelings like you get when you see a ghost, that skin crawling hair tightening feeling, or that chest grabbing feeling, knowing something was not right, we both felt this was...simply natural, like that excited feeling when you see your first whale, or cougar in the wild, excitment, giddiness, but not fear. I have seen ghosts, hell I walk parallel a ghost in louisville down bardstown till he walked into cave hill, other people seen him, stepped aside from him, looked over him to see others, and I had "the feeling" but not with the women, I have been lucky enuff to see "weird: critters, and have done rituals that have had manifesttaions, and know what each encounter felt for me, this didnt feel like a manifestation unfortunately after time went on my friends husband kept having problems, eventually he moved out back to his parents, my friend being stuck with the kids had to move to california for work, the guy I met eventually stopped contacting my friend, and then I had to move back east, for family issues I stand by what I saw and my words, now, for those science"religionists", thinking that science can and will explan all. let's take a look at how often science, and science thinking people has simply been wrong about reality. Jefferson dismissimg meteorites, looking for mammoths, those that thought the milkyway galaxy was the universe, those that claimed that washington never had giants floods, or those that denied continental drift, heck there are even questions on how to interpret quantum physics. I read Hawkings doubts finding the HiggsBoson, And the idea of howmuch energy would be used, How much energy would be needed, realizing you are simply assuming armchair beliefs to be correct, just like medieval philosophers questioning how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, holding onto beliefs that are at least useless if not ridiculous. Claiming wildly that ghosts are now caused by strong emr or infrasound, yet another religious belief, just because you can get some of the responses to a paranomal situation, is just minimizing experiences is another way religious science operates, if you can explain a part, you explain it all. So the question is simply are there things we don't know or has reality all been mapped, and if it is we can go home, no need to explore. ufos, simply swamp gas reflected off venus, ghosts, no problem too much radio signals, see all explained. dont worry that there are still anomalies science has limits, one is the belief that we can, somehow always understand things around us, the other is the reproducibility belief, all things if done the same way will always result in the same outcome these confound of course dont take into account of the reality of the factor of chaos, there yet another religious belief most so called "rational" people, and "skeptics" have simply exchanged one religion for another ________________________________ From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: mythfolk@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 1:48:21 AM Subject: Re: [mythfolk] Werewolves? I think any actual literal physical change of a human being into a wolf, coyote, bear, tiger, or leopard, or vice versa, is EXTREMELY unlikely, for two reasons: (1) I find it very hard to think of any plausible biological mechanism for radically changing anatomical structures from those of one species to those of another species in just a few minutes. (2) The ENERGY needed for such a quick, radical physical transformation would, in all likelihood, end up producing ANOTHER well-known (and much better authenticated) Fortean phenomenon-- Spontaneous Human Combustion! Or are some SHC cases really unsuccessful lycanthropy attempts? :-) For these reasons, I have ALWAYS been EXTREMELY skeptical of any and all "lycanthropy" and "shape-shifting" stories, interpreted as literal physical transformations. However, I also see no good reason to dogmatically reject several other Fortean and paranormal explanations of seeming "lycanthropy, " "werewolf," or "shape-shifting" cases: (1) Spectral "Black Dogs" and "Phantom Wolves," a well-authenticated paranormal phenomenon, which sometimes manifests shape-shifting (see Janet and Colin Bord, /Alien Animals/, 1981) (2) Comparable spectral "Hairy Hominid" or "Bigfoot" cases, again sometimes manifesting shape-shifting (again, see Janet and Colin Bord, /Alien Animals/) (3) Giant Monkeys, as posited by Loren Coleman and Patrick Huyghe in /The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates/ (2006) as one of their nine basic types of frequently reported cryptid primates, probably responsible for many "out-of-place kangaroo" and even "goat-man" reports (and maybe even some "Bunnyman" cases? :-) ) (4) "Ghosts" (whatever they might REALLY be), with seemingly few or no qualms about shape-shifting (5) Shamans with a mental or "psychic" capacity to "hypnotize" witnesses into seemingly perceiving a "shape-shifting" episode, who can telepathically induce people into seeing them change into a wolf, bear, deer, or tiger! All these, I think, I can more or less accept--far more than literal physical shape-shifting!
